With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Professor Hanspeter Pfander on June 10, 2025, at the age of 85. He passed away peacefully of natural causes at the Bürgerspital in Berne, surrounded by his beloved wife Regula.
Until his final days, he remained intellectually engaged, particularly in the fields of politics and science, with a lifelong passion for carotenoids. He looked back on a long and distinguished career in carotenoid research.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee I would like to thank the 126 attendees to our virtual conference who helped make it such a success!
Save the date for ICS Palma 2026 – The 20th International Symposium on Carotenoids: June 14-19, 2026; Hotel Victoria Gran Melia Convention Center (Palma, Spain). The symposium is ascribed to the ICS and is open to the public and scientific communities worldwide.
The Carotenoids GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages.
We are sad to report the peaceful passing of our longstanding friend and colleague, Steve Schwartz, Ph.D in late November 2023, due to complications of a chronic neurological condition known as Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD)
